"Average Woman"
by Abby Wendle
Some Woman, yes some "average" Woman,
convinced herself one night, yes one "average" night,
that it was "appropriate," yes "proper" even,
to use a wine cork to hold onto
as the replacement of a pot tops' handle...
Broken in who knows what?
maybe the unintended consequences of a
scalding by the lids' unpredicted heat?
or, perhaps, an angry
marital dispute when it
doubled as a weapon?
Guarding me against my dinner's unabashed rejection
of its oil,
some Woman's creative ingenuity is protecting me
tonight. again.
And i am thankful, yes thankful, for the "average"
Woman's
thoughtfulness.
